RING OF KERRY

Sunday 19th

Our stop last night Glenbeigh Village was very pretty

It has a hive of information, I didn’t not know about horse shoes or Ogham Language - see if you can figure it out.

What does the sign say?

After breakfast our journey around the Ring started with the first stop not a castle (even though the sign had a castle and flag - means beach castles). Kells Bay was worth the detour.

We then drove out to Doulus Head and visited Cahergall Stone Fort

And Ballycarbey Castle for morning tea.

Then we jumped on to Skellig Ring road which was spectacular.

Scenery is very similar to NZ south island. What a glorious weather to do the ring in, definitely can see why you wouldn’t want to do it in bad weather, you wouldn’t see anything.

Our journey continued on over the pass and we stopped for lunch in Ballinskelligs Bay

During lunch we decided should drive on and make night base at Glengariff but shortly after Sneem, Parnasilla we got a flat tyre awaiting tyre man to come out presently – the view is pretty good of the Kenmare River.

Lovely little spot that could be ideal for freedom camping we shall see. Have just heard from tyre guy and he said he is 45 minutes away - 4.20pm.

We finally got onto the road again at 6pm. Tyre man came from Tralee. Drove to Glengariff but wifi was shocking, so could not post this blog but they did have a bar in campground- all was not lost.

Journey down to Ring of Kerry

Left Tulla Friday after a night with Paula and drove down to Killimer Ferry to cross the Shannon River. Ferry costs 18 Euro for campervan.

A pleasant drive along the coastal road to Tralee.

Stopped early and stayed the night in Woodlands Park in Tralee as Vicki was unwell (feeling slightly better today). http://www.kingdomcamping.com/

This morning from Tralee we drove out to Spa and visited the O'Sullivan family on their Farm in Barrow, Gerard recommended to drive out to Dingle but as day was moving on we had a lovely late lunch at Spa Seafood and drove across to the start of Ring of Kerry. Tonight we are staying at Glenross Caravan http://www.camping-ireland.ie/parks/kerry/40-glenross-caravan-a-camping-park.html in Glenbeigh Village catching up with chores. Glenbeigh Hotel is just outside the gate so no doubt we will go this out later.

View from our campervan not bad at all - hope weather holds for tomorrow.

Our plan tomorrow is to spend whole day exploring Ring of Kerry.

Cong - County Clare - Tulla

Day started very fresh, went off to explore Cong before heading down to County Clare

Cong has a statue of John Wayne and Maureen O’hara who were in the 1951 movie The Quiet Man, this movie is played every night in Cong. http://www.quietman-cong.com/cong-museum/

Weather had improved and scenery was spectacular

We continued to drive down the coast line which was beautiful and by early afternoon made it to Kilrush and parked on the Marina for afternoon smoko.  Clara gave us a kiwi for our journey and you will see him appear in photos now and then :)

Drove back to Ennis to catch up with Paula  at the Ground Hotel and then out to her place in Tulla for a chinese. Thanks for putting us up Paula it was great catching up. 

So excited to see Paula again after 25 years -  we forgot to take any photos - UNBELIEVABLE

Off to Tralee this morning.
