Silsden to Skipton

8 May
What a beautiful morning. We have been on the boat for two weeks and both agree we love it. Just as well :)

To date we have travelled 89 miles which has consisted of 65 locks, 40 moveable bridges 26 small aquaducts and 3 major ones. I think the thing I dread most are the swing bridges, hard on the back and legs. Love them when they are open.

Dread them when I have to swing them.

At a swing bridge just before Bradley there is a memorial for 7 Polish airmen who crashed here during World War 2. There was a gentleman on his morning walk at the memorial and he said he remembered it well, he was 10 years old at the time.

Today has been a short day we only moved for 3 hours as we were heading for Skipton Market. Arrived about 12.30 and went off to the Narrowboat Inn for lunch and then to the market.

Home for the night, the rain has really settled in, not clearing until Saturday afternoon so we may stay put here until then. Dianne is due to join us for awhile today.

TOTAL TODAY - 6 miles - 10 swing bridges (2 were open)
