Stone (Trent & Mersey Canal) to Bogg Lock (Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal)

11 June – Stone Bridge to Worseley

Only went down two locks this morning so Vicki & Caroline could go into town to do some op shop buying and a quick shop for Barbie dinner. I stayed on boat to run washing machine, engine needs to run over 1000rpm and you don’t get that going through locks.

Bought a new hat while shopping ;-)

We moved on running through lovely country side and villages and had our first stuff up - missed the turn off at Great Haywood – bugger. Over shot this by 3 miles and 2 locks. This came down to reading map upside down. No winding holes for another 2 miles so we stopped for the night and will run back tomorrow to catch up with Caroline & Jeff in the morning. No barbie tonight for us. Not that easy doing a 3 point turn with a 54 foot Narrowboat.

Stupid calves can't they see the water behind the barb wire.

TOTAL – 12 miles, 8 locks, 7 small aqueducts

12 June – Worseley (Trent & Mersey canal) to Shutt Hill Lock 41 (Staffordshire & Worcestershire canal)

6am start going down to turning hole and back tracking to Great Haywood this time turned left under bridge onto Staffordshire canal. Caught up with Jeff & Caroline at 9am, they had a productive morning and managed to get their boat serviced while waiting for us. Set off again but Vicki not feeling well and by noon decided to say good bye to Jeff & Caroline as they have commitments in Birmingham, we will catch them when we get there.

The turn on to Straffordshire we missed yesterday !!!!!

Going through the locks you meet many interesting people and it is amazing what you learn in 5 minutes going through them, on one lock we meet Barry who is from Gisborne and moved here in 2013, his wife is English and he is now trying for residency and is running a very kiwi business from his boat. http://www.thehomebrewboat.co.uk/

Enjoyed the rest of the afternoon resting and listening to Cricket – a win for NZ but close and entertaining game with nearly 800 runs scored.

TOTAL - 9 miles, 5 locks, 3 small aqueducts – change of canal now on Staffordshire

13 June – REST DAY

Not moving as rain now persistent and why should we. It rained all day and only boats moving are hire boats. Ran motor for 2.5 hours to charge batteries and heat water. Vicki starting to feel better.

TOTAL – No miles, lots of sleep and lots of rain

14 June – Shutt Hill Lock 41 to Bogg Lock

Set off at 8.30 and moved up to services at Penkridge Lock, weather is beautiful this morning.

Our home for two days didn't look like this in rain :-)

Moored up on 48 hours to walk into town centre to do a shop at Co-op for weeks grub. Back to boat to stow away and strolled back to Boat Inn for Sunday Roast – Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pud (the worst we have ever had) 4/10.
Moved on after lunch and did more locks, some with queues and some solo.
Rain threatened around 3.30 and started at Bogg Lock so we moored up just past that lock.

Saw a fly past by a large jet and 4 small escorts and then saw the last Vulcan Bomber flying pass over head. She is the last one and this is her last season before storage into a museum not far from here.
T
Happened so quick, should have got my canon camera out. This is one of the last flights for the Vulcan. http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2015/06/14/live-cosford-air-show-2015/

Cricket on Radio again and another win for NZ – they have 5 one days so that 3 down. 2 to NZ, 1 to UK.

TOTAL – 4 miles, 7 locks, 7 small aqueducts.
