Mile End to Spitalfield

6 August - Walkabout East London

Up at a leisurely hour and breakfast, Today is a tube strike day so movement across London could be tricky.

We set off at 10.30 and walked down the canal to the Mile End road and from there towards Spitalfields, using the phone map we wandered around looking at places that Vicki's convict ancestors had done their dirty work and thus gained their Australian passports. We looked at markets and walked on as the Buses were all full as they went by.
By lunchtime we were in Brick Lane, famous for it's Indian food. We chose Aladin and we were assured by the manager that they are the best, [ HRH Prince Charles dined there last month ] and they have won many awards. The 1st 10 we have given an Indian since we have been here.  http://aladinbricklane.net/
I personally ticked off 2 Bucket list items today - No 1 an Indian in Brick Lane, No 2 a ride in a Black Cab, which we took back to the boat.
Eleven pound for the cab which wasn't bad as we had walked over 5 miles around East London

A couple of afternoon drinks in the Palm Tree pub, within sight of the boat and back on board at 4pm
Is very much an east end pub, in old days use to be a corner pub but now in the centre of a park.
Alfie, the publican was an interest chap to talk to, he has run the pub since the 70s and he and his wife have owned it since Trumans Breweries closed down around 76s.  http://www.trumansbeer.co.uk/
The pub has been inside the park since 1986. He must have made a good deal that the park couldn't break http://www.towerhamlets.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=12599
Looking at the 6pm news there is Cricket being played here at the moment but at All out for 60 it's not as we know it

TOTAL no locks, lots and lots of walking
