Hall Green lock to Stanier Bridge, Macclesfield Canal

11 September - Peaceful day cruising

An easy start at 11 am after breakfast and blog and we cruised into Congleton and moored in a cutting under trees, but near shops.

As you can probably tell I am loving the bridges, Macclesfield Canal certainly does not have a shortage of them. These ones are made from Sandstone blocks and Pete was pretty impressed, as we drive thru them he looks for the Masons marks, still visible since 1825, these marks showed who cut each stone and was how they were paid.

This bridge has a ramp that goes up one side and down the other for when horses use to pull boats and tow path changed sides, these bridges are called Snake bridges.

Just to prove they are not all sand stone

The breeze is up today so flag was flying nicely

We first had lunch at the Railway Inn, Vicki had tomato and Mozzarella salad 5/10, no greenery how can you have salad with out greens. I had Thai Mussels 8/10 very nice but not as good as the mussels I had at the Tame Otter. There is no supermarket on this side of town so Vicki did a small shop in a local mini mart while I got a hair cut at the barbers, that done we moved on into the country again.
A really cute cottage next to a swing bridge and how they are living in Congleton
And out in the countryside how the other half live

Vicki jumped off and walked the tow path for awhile and I went on to Bridge 68 to load water.

I enjoyed my walk along tow path, nice not hearing the engine of boat, should do it more often. The countryside has changed to rolling hills and is beautiful and peaceful.

Sandstone is used a lot on this canal the sign on right is saying Marple is 20 miles away, we are heading that way but have 12 Bosley locks first

Caught up with Pete but water point was on other side so I walked up to next bridge for him to collect me

Stopping to pick up Vicki and we then cruised on till we found a good mooring spot, we were moored up at 4 30pm below are our neighbours for the night, shouldn't be a problem with noise.

TOTAL -  locks, 6 miles, 4 small aqueducts, 1 haircut and 1 shop
