East Marton to Salterforth

Set off about 9.30 after rain had eased to a light drizzle and then cleared for day. Was to be a short cruise today with only three locks through beautiful countryside leaving Yorkshire and moving into Lancashire.

Double arches in East Marton looked beautiful as we left and cruising through country side was lovely and relaxing with NO SWING BRIDGES.

The Greenberfield locks were no problem at the first two, unfortunately the third had an upstream ground sluice that would not shut fully and we could not open the bottom gates. (It’s all about water level). In the end we refilled and shut paddles and emptied again. BINGO job done. The gates and sluices get rubbish under them and won’t close 100%. This lock took us an hour to get through and we all left the boat to help.

That done we moved on to The Anchor Inn in Salterforth and had a late lunch.  Definitely a 9/10 pub lunch and a few drinks with locals.
