Salterforth to Aspen Bridge West End

12 May - Salterforth to Nelson Bridge 140

It started an overcast day with very very strong winds. We set off around 9 to cruise to Foulridge Tunnel which is 1640 yards and takes about 20 minutes to get through. The tunnel has traffic lights on it and we went through without a hitch.

When we got to Barrowford locks we were lucky enough to have help through 7 locks from Lock Keepers, Vicki loves it when we get help.

Stopped beside Morrisons who have moorings at the rear - very convenient for stocking up. Stocked up with essentials as well as plants and booze !!!!!

Moored the night in Nelson at Bridge 140. Some would think us brave.

TOTAL - 5 miles - 7 Locks - 1 tunnel (Foulridge - 1640yds)

13 May - Nelson Bridge No 140 to Aspen Bridge No 110

Beautiful morning but still very cold. A long cruise through the back blocks of Burnley. Lots of floating rubbish but good views of old mills.

Stopped for lunch and water at Rose Grove. No gas or diesel from any boat yards. We had another tunnel Gannow Tunnel only 550 yards this one.

Kiwi's do like the dark

We stopped the for the night at Aspen Bridge No. 110, West End just past Church

Dianne on dry land

Vicki and I went up to the pub, Hare and Hounds, while Dianne made dinner.
Sunset, what a beautiful spot.

Vicki went back and grabbed Dianne as we ended up staying for Quiz night and arrive back on boat around 11.30pm a little the worse. We came 6th or 7th and had a great time with the locals.

TOTAL - 15 miles - 0 locks - 1 tunnel - 3 swing bridges
