Offenham to Stratford upon Avon

25 June – Offenham Lock to Bidford on Avon

Well two months down and still loving it, we only kill each other every now and then. We have now done 496 miles and 307 locks. Having a few slow days which is very nice.
Beautiful morning and passed some lovely countryside

Move today was not far and we stopped for the basics, shop, pump out and diesel. While at the boat yard he told us that supermarket was just down the lane and we could leave boat there, very handy. After shop we moved across river and moored for the day as they had 24 hour moorings. We decided to stay as Vicki not 100%, something she ate. Quiet afternoon did us good.

Later in the afternoon Vicki went for a stroll around village. This is where a tractor knocked a large chunk off the old bridge that is now under repair and will take 6 months. Closed to traffic and restricted boat passage underneath. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-33143889

TOTAL – 7 miles, 3 locks

26 June – Bidford on Avon to Stratford on Avon

Up at 7 for breakfast and run motor as batteries low. Didn’t move until Simon arrived to spend day with us – “a friend of Vicki’s from her London Days”.
Simon arrived just after 9 and we set off to Stratford upon Avon.

You can see the damage on the bridge so much more from the canal

At first lock we shared with a Hire boat 6-7 guys some fishing and some playing with their phones. There was an older couple who had gone through just before us we had meat earlier, they have been boating 25 years. Vicki and the woman agreed to share the next lock but unfortunately I let the hirer boat out first and I couldn’t past them. At the next lock the couple were waiting for us but the hire boat slid in first. This caused a riot with the older woman giving them a bollicking re canal manners, then a woman off a gin palace coming down joined in and then Vicki gave them a broadside. I don’t know where they went after that but we haven’t seen them since.
We never got to see these boys again, obviously running for cover somewhere

The rest of the locks were much easier and more pleasant. Into Stratford upon Avon around 2ish and off for lunch at the Encore with Simon. Extremely pleasant day, overcast and weather seemed to hold off majority of the time.

Arriving in Stratford upon Avon, last lock,
Simon gets to hold the boat this time. Note Bob he has now officially done 5 locks.

Simon set off back on his bike at 5pm to his car  in Bidford - only took him just under an hour, proves cycling is faster than the canal. Thanks Simon great having your help for the day and enjoyed the catch up.
Went to Thai Boathouse for dinner around 8ish and had our first 10 out of 10 meal. Highly recommend if you are in Stratford upon Avon.

View from the restaurant, how is that for a sunset
Royal Shakespear Theatre - our boat is opposite it.

We where going to go to a play at Shakespeare theatre but tickets were a bit pricey and we both agreed we can’t really get head around it and have decided on a different treat next weekend, watch this space.
 Sunset view for night.

TOTAL – 9 miles, 6 locks
