17 June - Wombourne Bridge to Whittington
A pleasant drive through countryside heading south through
villages and scenery that got hillier as you went along. Canal is obviously following land contours. Filled up with Water in Greensforge.
Then went through to Stourton Junction and had a quick look
around but weather was coming in. Tried to head to the castle but traffic was
horrible and no footpath. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stourton,_Staffordshire
We travelled on through Kinver and headed for Whittington. Pete
keen to find somewhere to moor so he could listen to cricket. Oh dear NZ lost. One more game at present 2 each. Saturday will be decider.
TOTAL - 7 miles, 11, locks, 2 small aqueducts and 1 tunnel (Dunsley)
18 June – Whittington to Oldington Bridge No. 10
Up and breakfast by 9 with engine running as we need to do
a load of washing. Inverter clicks out if batteries not charged for an hour
before washing machine goes on.
And then on down to Wolverley where we stopped at The Lock Inn for lunch, one of the
best we have had for a while - 9/10. We meet a Narrowboat full of kiwi’s
heading north for a week. A good chat.
We then pressed on through to Kidderminster past
supermarkets and shops and pubs. Pete driving so we didn’t stop LOL. We were
actually looking for a water point to top up again.
The Kidderminster Lock is quite amazing it is straight in
front of the church and at the biggest intersection – canal goes under a large
round about after crossing the river Stour on an aqueduct
Travelled through the town fairly quickly, you can
definitely tell it was a city. Back into the countryside it is very pleasant
and moored the night just past Oldington Bridge and shall go into Stourport on
Severn in the morning.
