Rode Heath to Westport Lake, Tunstall (Trent & Mersey canal)

More Locks

Usual start with lots more locks, 6 together through countryside and the last 6 going through the centre of Kidsgrove.

We were going to stop for lunch but before we knew it were upon Harecastle Tunnel. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/directory/7/harecastle-tunnel
We didn’t have to wait long and managed to get through within 40 minutes – 2926 yards (2 ½ kms). The tunnel in use is the 2nd one and was finished in 1827 and carried commercial traffic until 1954.

Unfortunately following a vintage diesel made it a bit smelly.
Lucky Jeff & Caroline on Nb Liverbird got ahead of it

We are out, this side is definitely more spectacular than the otherside

Continued on to Westport Lake and moored the night on rings next to an interesting neighbour and just down from Nb Muleless, a boat who blogs but not for some time.

TOTAL – 6 miles – 12 locks – 1 tunnel (Harecastle) – 3 small aqueducts
