High Lane bridge 11, Macclesfield Canal to Bugsworth Basin, Peak Forest

15 September - A day in the Peak Forest

Up late and oozed into the day with blog and breakfast, we moved off at 11am
No it wasn't, it was ten to

We cruised along the last of the Maccie for the day, shall return tomorrow maybe and do Marple 16 Locks.

We turned onto the Peak forest canal, a slow cruise along the side of a large valley with spectacular views across to the other side with roads, cottages and a railway with some large stone bridges. A bunch of swing and lift bridges kept Vicki amused and that led us to the fork and the arm that leads to Bugsworth Basin.

Confectionery Mill still working it smelt very sweet passing

 Spot the kiwi boaters

More diggers on the canal, Pete is obsessed
She doesn't quite get the digger thing the photo was suposed to show the old JCB backhoe boom grafted on to the other end
No one told me that there were movable bridges on the Peak, one was automatic though
We stopped at the entrance to the basin and loaded water and dropped rubbish and talked to the CRT guy who showed us the best place to wind and moor.We followed his advice and moored in front of a couple from NZ on a hire boat.

We went straight to the pub for a late lunch but were to late so decided on dinner, Vicki had 2 ciders and went back to the boat for a nap and I stayed in the pub and had a very enjoyable time with the local residents. The pub is called the Navigation and was once owned by Pat Phoenix , if you know who she is you are showing your age. Vicki came back at 6pm and we had dinner, Fish and chips for her and Liver and Bacon for me 5/10 for Vicki and 7/10 for me, Back on the boat by 7.30pm no TV so showers and books in bed.

View for the night, sky has cleared but getting very cold

TOTAL - 8 miles, 4 moveable bridges, 5 small aqueducts
