6 October - Stanley Ferry to Lemonroyd Marina
Up at 7 on a cold and grey morning, breakfast and a move up to the water point for a fill, that done we said farewell to Janet and her boat Albert, we have been together since the 20th of September when we met Janet and her sister Celia in Manchester and budded up for the Rochdale canal crossing. Thanks girls you were a pleasure to cruise with, good luck with your next adventures.
Goodbye to Stanley Ferry, spent 3 days here in the end
Oh I love these locks, your finger gets the exercise, I have missed you so
Our loop has closed, we were last here back in June on our original journey to Leeds
We then decided on a change of plan and doubled back towards Leeds and booked into Lemonroyd Marina for a week, this will give us time out from daily boating and we will rent a car for some day trips, the forecast for the next few days is not that good and these rivers need to be approached with caution when it rains.
The rain has well settled in now
TOTAL - 8 miles, 6 Locks
7 October - Pete's birthday at Lemonroyd Marina
Many thanks to all those who sent good wishes and greetings for my 60th birthday from the good people we have met on this trek around the canals of England to all those following on this blog in NZ and other spots across the world thank you.It rained most of the day so we stayed on the boat warm and dry and on shore power, a change from conserving batteries.
I was given the traditional big breakfast and fizz and presents and then went back to bed. Vicki gave me a card that gives me the rights of being correct for 24 hours, only debate is whether it finished on NZ or UK time zone.
The weather finally clears about 7pm in time for the sunset. A relaxing day had by all
