30 September - a pleasant cruise to Sowerby
Up and away by 9am and a most scenic run down to Sowerby Bridge, 5 locks, and one that was 1 boat at a time so that becomes a bonus one. This also has a sign to ring Lock keepers for Toul tunnel.
And we are off. Hebden is a very cute market town
A stop for lunch and we realised that the services we were heading for were on the downstream side of the locks and tunnel need a lock keeper in attendance to use. As we had booked this for tomorrow at 9am they said that they couldn't help this afternoon as all keepers had been sent to Lock 11 to sort it out. There was no one from CRT available to do the job today.
Have we really only done 29 miles
Lock 5
So we got to the lock landing and moored for the day, the girls did a bit of retail relaxation and I did bloke stuff, had a nap and read a book.
Our view for the night in Sowerby
Vicki came back and said that the locals in the town said the Indian down the road was the best in the world but we have heard all this before. We talked to Janet and decided to give them a try and off we went at 6.30. Just as well because if we had gone any later we would not have got a table, Janet is vegetarian so we stayed on that part of a large menu and had a 9.5/10, one of the best we have had while here, When we left there were people waiting for tables and this was a Wednesday
TOTAL - 5 locks, 1 bonus lock, 1 small aqueduct, 1 load of washing and 1 Indian meal
This morning when we started typing blog I looked out and there was a market setting up.
