16 October - That was a interesting morning that could have turned bad
Up and about and Vicki made breakfast, as we finished there was a smell of burning plastic (Pete blamed my cooking - yeah right). It got worse the further we went down towards the stern. The back bedroom was full of choking smoke. I got a lung full as I rushed to open the back doors. We turned off the heating that had been on for about half an hour and the smoke cleared. We could not find a fire so we rang Martyn to find out what he would like us do. We were only about an hour and half away from Thorne Boat yard and this is where he gets his servicing done so off we went. A side track down a canal we hadn't planned on Stainforth & Keadby canal.
Stainforth and Keadby canal very pretty
Thorne Boat Yard and right beside was a CRT depot so we did rubbish and water before leaving
In the boys boat yard they had all sorts of toys. Pete was impressed
Anyway the boys at Thorne checked the electrics and the Aldi gas heater and there was a loose battery connection. The Aldi was a sooty mess in the flame area. A clean out and reassembley saw the problem sorted and we are now able to do the rest of our journey with peace of mind.
We stayed for lunch and ran Aldi to ensure that it was actually fixed and then set off again back past Barnby Dun and we eventually stopping at Long Saddle Lock on visitors moorings for the night at 4.45pm
