A road trip with Dianne

8 October - Yorkshire Sulpture Park

We are now in Lemonroyd Marina, Oulton for the week and shall collect a car tomorrow. Today we were picked up at 11.00 by cousin Dianne and she took us to the Yorkshire Sculpture park, http://www.ysp.co.uk/ This a 500 acre park featuring large outdoor works of art. We had a light lunch and walked around for the afternoon in beautiful sunshine and admired an impressive collection from some world renowned artists.
Autumn has definitely arrived. Pete and Dianne

Dianne & Vic beside flatpack

At the lake in the valley there is part of the 1914/1918 poppy display this was 1st seen last year at the Tower of London.  At the Sculpture park they have the wave which is well worth the walk down to, you can imagine how impressive it must have been at the Tower - http://www.1418now.org.uk/commissions/poppies/

We returned to the boat for a cuppa and then we went to dinner at The 3 Horseshoes and we were joined by Nick. I had the Gammon and Veg 5/10 not a patch on Nancy's at the Boarder Rose, and Vicki had the Chicken and Mushroom Pie 7/10. http://www.threehorseshoesoulton.co.uk/index.html
Opposite the pub the sun was setting over the church  http://www.stjohnsoulton.org.uk/the_beginnings. This is where alot of my dad's family are buried, I shall have to revisit before leaving the area

Dianne dropped us back to the boat by 8pm and it is cold outside but no rain today. What a lovely day.

Thanks Dianne for taking us around and for also missing the turn off so that Pete was able to see the crane at wharf again - this caught his attention a few days ago when he and Nick  missed the flood lock turn off. Now he has seen it from both sides - from water and land.

TOTAL - 1 road trip, 1 walk and 1 pub dinner
