Kilnhurst to Rotherham.

18 October - Quick trip to Rotherham giving us an opportunity to say bye and thanks

Up and about at 7am, breakfast and off into the cold grey and misty morning, more big mechanised locks and into the industrial outskirts of Rotherham. What a sight it must have been in its heyday, there are still landing docks with gantry's and loading chutes in place but apart from the Humber Princess oil barge the shipping is all gone. Waddingtons still have yards with Tugs Barges and Cranes but these have not moved for years, but if there is a call they are ready, and with the canal still usable up to Rotherham that could happen. River transport is Greener, and moves large loads but speed is the thing these days.

We stopped outside the Rotherham rail station just before the 1st of the old style locks and waited for a visitor who was joining us for morning tea.
We were joined by Jan (Nb QISMA), Jan is our oldest blog buddy and with her husband Alistair have been the source of masses of help and advice both before we arrived and when we got here. After scones (10/10) and tea we strolled around Rotherham and Jan pointed out the sights, where her 1st job was , the bus stop where the last bus on Friday night departed what was where and what has been demolished, the info you only get from them that were there.
Thanks Jan you have been amazing help so glad we managed to catch up.
Alistair and you will need to do a trip down under
We then waved good bye at the Rail station, Good bye Jan and thank you we will be in touch soon.

Very overcast day shall explore Rotherham tomorrow

The rest of the day was 2 games of Rugby and an early night . It would seem that there are only Southern hemisphere teams left in the world cup, when you consider the verbal dribble from the English Media over the last several months one wonders what they can find to talk about now.

TOTAL - 4 miles, 3 locks and 2 rugby games
