Long Sandall Lock to Hooton Road Bridge, Kilnhurst

17 October - An early start in beautiful Autumn weather

Up and about at 7 am, (no flamed grilled breakfast today) and off towards Doncaster by 8.30.

A quick trip through Doncaster, this is where we saw The Humber Princess on our way out in April but as it is the weekend there was no chance to see her again - attached is a youtube the Sheffield Narrowboats did https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHul05Z74oY

Into Doncaster lock

We had a fast run on deep and wide river through Sprotbrough, Conisbrough and Swinton, locks are big automated to wear out Vicki's finger. This saw us make good time and we stopped at Kilnhurst for lunch at 2pm.

A quick look up and down found the Ship Inn which was built in 1752  http://www.kilnhurstheritage.co.uk/kilnhurst-2/kilnhurst/  but its not open today till 5pm and we looked the other way up the road. I spotted a plain building with Kilnhurst W M C on the front and this turned out to be the local working men's club with a group of Saturday arvo Yorkshire men playing cards and having a few pints, the accents were broad and the humor the same dry wit that this county is famous for. No food though so lunch was Crisps and beer and we were told that the rugby would be on later.
Back to the boat at 4pm and tried tuning the TV, no reception NIX, so a visit to the pub for dinner and we stayed to watch the ABs tear France into small bits. A Gammon steak for me 5/10 pub grub but thats as far as it went and a Steak for Vicki 5/10 the same thoughts as me .
We settled in to watch the game with more Salt of the Earth Yorkshire folk and had an excellent night of Rugby, Beer and Humor at the Ship Inn. We were back on the boat at 11pm a little the worse for celebrating.

This is not a bad spot for mooring, Wharf Road has bollards and as the folk at WMC say it is known as Kilnhurst Marina, an easy walking to pub, WMC and local corner shop and I believe an excellent curry take away.

TOTAL 13 miles and 5 locks
