Thornhill Double Locks to Stanley Ferry

3 October - When the mist cleared it was beautiful

Up at 7am and breakfast by Vicki (yum) and off we went in misty conditions, a 10 mile run to Stanley Ferry to meet up with the Yorkshire family for Pete's birthday lunch.

Nick arrived early to help with locks again, complete with a hangover from Friday night league, his beloved Leeds Rhinos won, and we carried on. Nick and I on Grumble and Vicki and Janet on Albert, wide canals and wider sections of river made for higher speeds and larger locks and extra hands speeding up the trip, and we cruised through Wakefield.
Nick is in agreement the stake is a stupid invention, why the change. The Rochdale was a peace of cake compared to Calder & Hebble
Following Pete and Nick we notice them flying pass this flood lock into Wakefield. To busy yakking and admiring a crane. Janet and I agree men cant multi task
And on to Fall Ing lock which is large enough to have a 3rd boat in with us for the decent to the Aire & Calder river. A straight run and open flood locks saw us back on the canal and moored at Stanley Ferry at 12 30.

Janet went home on the train for the weekend and we went to lunch at the Pub with Diane and her boys, a long and slow lunch. Back to the boat for cake and presents and the SA v Scotland game and  for England's last stand against our ANZAC cousins, and yes Kiwi's do cheer for Australia.

TOTAL - 10 miles, 8 locks, 1 movable bridge left open
