Hungerfield bridge to Antsy Bridge No 14

26 August - nearly a day off

Up and about with rain still about and no boats moving. About 10am the sky's were cleared and boats were on the move so we moved towards Ansty (only because we pulled a mooring pin as a boat went past and thought time to move when the stern swung out.]

The one moveable bridge by the boat yard - manned

We did 4 miles through the countryside with the London to Birmingham railway for company and moored up on rings at bridge no 14. Hot scones made on the boat 10/10 for lunch and the afternoon off, we have not had a rest day for 10 days so it was due.

Under the M6 beside the main railway trunk to London

At 6pm we walked up the road a way to the Rose and Castle more restaurant than pub and had dinner, Vicki had Chicken and Salmon with a soup starter 9/10, and I had lambs liver, bacon and mash and the soup starter again 9/10 all in all a very nice meal and 1st class service. Back to the boat and a bit of TV and bed.
A word on TV reception it has been patchy thru the whole trip and then the aerial broke, so we improvised in true Kiwi fashion with a bit of wire, after a few trials and a daily reset the TV picture is much better.
The weather was much improved by bedtime so in the morning we shall decide on our next move.
 Our view for the night
Throughout the afternoon we reviewed where we have been and where we need to go. So far we have done 834 miles and 671 locks. Our plot is for the Rochdale to get back to Sheffield and this will be another 221 miles and 226 locks barring any side tracking and should take about 31 days. Not bad as we have just under 2 months up our sleeve. Need to be in Sheffield 24 October. This is Plan A

TOTAL FOR TODAY is - 4 miles, 1 moveable bridge, 4 small aqueducts
