15 August - What a difference a day can make
Up and about by 7 to beautiful weather, breakfast and chores and Vicki went for a walk for an hour into Little Wittenham.
Our mooring for the night just outside Little Wittenham
Off for a walk across the field
Clara you would love this - World Competition of Pooh Stick held in Little Wittenham, they have a competition here every March https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poohsticks
Look what was being delivered to the Manor House, didn't think they did bottles anymore
I stayed on board did some messaging and chores, we then set off but only after Vicki got stung by another Wasp, there must have been a nest near where she was bashing the mooring pin with the hammer and woke the little chaps up, the grumpy little Bastards (hand swollen like mad now).
First lock of they day is completely manual but luckily boats were coming down also, the next one wasn't so bad, it had power to it but was still self service
We moved on in much better weather through Clifton Hampden - (sorry Bridget tried to stop but there were no moorings, looked a pretty town though).
Moorings in Abingdon are 5 days free
After lunch off to explore Abingdon and when done stopped at The Nags Head a pub on a bridge for a drink it was very busy in the garden bar.
St Helens Church https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Helen%27s_Church,_Abingdon
Pete was pretty disgusted with the the restoration of this path below, he reckons he would never be allowed to leave a job looking like this.
Almshouses and St Helen's Mill
Off to the pub
After a drink we went back to the boat for dinner -Pasta, 10/10. TV reception here 2/ 10 so its books and into bed.
TOTAL - 8 miles, 3 locks - 2 self service, 1 load washing
16 August - day of rest in Abingdon
Have decided not to move today and address Oxford in the morning, shall organise a roast for dinner and that is as hard as day will get. These bells have been ringing most of the morning so a sleep in was not on the cards.
