Windsor [ Datchet ] to Windsor Castle.

10 August - Windsor

Up late and moved off at 9.30 - overcast day and rain threatening, water levels had risen a bit and we poled MUSN Grumble off the mud with out a problem. 2 miles and 1 lock we found an 8 pound per night mooring at Windsor Castle.

A load of washing done and we walked into town.

 Mooring spot for the day

The first thing was to catch the sightseeing bus which has a audio commentary as you go, very good, the bus does a round trip out to Eaton and back to Windsor and even passed our last nights mooring.

Hop on Hop off buses are a great way to explore area first. http://www.city-discovery.com/windsor/tour.php?id=2968

Windsor Bridge now closed to traffic

Mooring the night before

Then on to the Castle, masses of people but steeped in history, a large part of the Royal apartments and the Garter halls open with the names of all the Garter Knights on the walls, we found Sir Edmund Hillary and Sir Keith Jacka Hollyoak amongst them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windsor_Castle

The admission fees to the castle have been used to help fund some of the repairs to the fire Windsor Castle had in 1992, this is also the first time I have visited Windsor Castle and you had to go through security, first time was in 70s and then 80s.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Windsor_Castle_fire

Pete always finds someone to talk too, water problem in the middle of tourist route around castle
Moat garden, note the cabbage trees

We got both of these tours as senior citizens, I knew this grey hair would be handy for something and that saved 10 pounds, paid for our moorings.
A drink in a pub by the castle and then on to the King and Castle [ a Wetherspoons ] and Steak and Kidney pie for me and Fish and chips for Vicki both 7/10 but 10/10 for value for money (you were right Jeff), managed to walk some of it off on the way back to the boat. An interesting and busy day.

TOTAL - 2 miles, 1 lock, 1 load of washing, 1 Castle and 1 bus tour and a walk around a Historical town
