8 August - Limehouse to Hampton Court
London by Thames
Whoooho - the day has finally arrived, up at 5am, boat made ready, radio working, life jackets on. We go through the lock with 2 other boats - 1 wide 1 narrow, we got sent out 1st by the lock keepers and other boats never kept up, not that we were speeding we just had a good run, until we slowed for rowers but we did the run in 3.5 hrs with an incoming tide to help us along the way.
Out through the lock and on to the Thames
Tower Bridge still in mist
Poor old house of parliament is having major problems, there is talk about moving parliament out for a few years to do repairs
Weather just keeps improving along the way
Mission accomplished, our nerves didnt actually need to rise, it was a fantastic trip and experience
So pleased we did this, nerves on edge at start and a sobering look as you leave the lock but at that hour in the morning you are on your own on the River. And that is as hard as it got, Narrowboats handle waves with ease, with care and attention. Not that it was very rough, city in mist at start and weather just got better and better.
Hampton Court Palace
Moored up at Hampton Court Palace on 24 hour moorings at 11am, early but considering we had be going since 5 not a problem. A little rest and off for lunch at The Mute Swan 8/10 http://www.brunningandprice.co.uk/muteswan/history/Then off for a walk around some of Hampton Court Palace and gardens, very impressive but a very hot day and very crowded.
When we got back to the boat we had a visit from Eliza ,Troy
and their mate Harry we had a few drinks and a hatched plan for them to join us cruising tomorrow to Windsor.
