Navigation bridge to Hungerfield bridge

25 August - Leisurely cruised on up the Oxford Canal

On the move about the usual time after a talk to Clara about her new phone replacing the one that broke.
Our mooring spot a Navigation Bridge, what beautiful weather we start with this morning, rain is forecast for 2pm so we set off slightly earlier
The first thing to look out for was Waiouru a Nb whose blog we follow, and were not far away and heading towards us. The 1st boat that we saw bingo, I shouted hello and got a surprised response as we passed waving and photo snapping etc. We e/mailed Tom and Jan a while ago when we were planning this holiday and asked questions of them which as Kiwis they would know but apart from that have only watched their blog. They posted yesterday that they saw us with  a good pic of us sailing away but don't know who we are, just Kiwis that sailed past on a purple boat.
Not quite as organised as they are, Jan ran down and got her big camera, I only had my phone. Think I need to take a leaf out of Jan's book and have my big camera handy, cropping in doesn't really work.

We soon came to Hillmorton locks, the book shows them as 3 sets of 2 and I assumed that they were one above the other but no they are side by side, twice as many boats can pass at the same time, and this gives many hands to help and give advice. Some were complete novices on hire boats and some were old hands but we worked through, the keeper at the bottom lock said that MUSN Grumble was the 30th boat that morning so very busy.

On we went through the outskirts of Rugby but the canal does not go into the town so there was not much evidence that a town was there at all.

We stopped for water at Newbold on Avon and had lunch at The Barley Mow, I had Lemon crumbed Haddock with mash and peas, Vicki had Ciabatta with Roast pork and Salad, the Haddock was very tasty but I think at one stage Mr Birds Eye may have owned it 5/10, Vic's sandwich 6/10.
 Newbold Tunnel
We moved on under darkening sky's and pined up at 2.30 just before the rain came back.
Rain has cleared, this is our mooring spot for night.

TOTAL - 12 miles, 3 locks, 5 small aqueducts, 1 tunnel Newbold
